This system and method was developed after consultation with Data Centre Facilities personnel, UPS Manufacturers and Health and Safety Consultants and the experience acquired from manually testing over a million batteries in the Data Centre and Power Utilities environments.
The use of looms no longer requires the string to be reduced to a safe working voltage (120 Vdc) thus there is no need to remove safety links nor battery terminal shrouds/covers which ensures that the integrity of the installation is maintained.
The looms ensure minimal if any chance of human error due to bad or partial kelvin connection. On the off chance that such an error may occur it is immediately picked up by the tester which reports the error (“No Connection”).
The loom and the loom extension come with a 10 year warranty against manufacture defect or malfunction and are transferable in the event of a battery change out which, in effect, results in a one time purchase.
Down time is reduced to a minimum as testing with looms reduces overall test time by 50% thus allowing double the amount of systems to be tested than would normally be possible.
This down time only occurs if it is required to open the battery breaker for testing purposes.
There is no need to isolate the UPS nor remove string fuses. Important to note that in this instance an Earth Leakage to frame test must still be done as an indicator of acid leakage to frame.
